How to Serve God in Your Dating Life
It’s not all about the ring.
This may sound strange, but you can serve God through your dating life. Here are a few tips to practice serving God by being Christlike while on a date.
Practice being kind. Perhaps your date is late and arrives flustered. If your natural instinct is to take a dig at their tardiness, or make fun of them, bite your tongue. Try not to show you’re annoyed at all of the little things.
Practice being courteous. This extends beyond opening doors for people. Sometimes it’s making sure your speed matches your dates speed as you walk side by side, try not to storm on ahead. Pour them a glass of water before you pour your own.
Practice being patient. Is your date taking ages to order their lunch? Let them take all the time they need. If patience is a struggle for you, watch your body language as well. Show you’re relaxed by sitting back in your chair, and relax your shoulders down. People can pick up on impatience even if they don’t say a word.
Practice your conversation skills. Men love to talk about themselves! Ask them lots of questions and keep them flowing. Ask questions that encourage them to tell a story.
Instead of “What do you do for work?” try “How did you end up in your line of work?” Instead of “How was your weekend?” try “What are you looking forward to this weekend?” Be curious and thoughtful in your responses.
